Equine Dentistry

Routine dental care greatly benefits your horse’s overall health. It is recommended to have your horse’s teeth checked on a yearly basis. Poor oral health may result in the following symptoms:

•    Dropping feed
•    Losing weight
•    Bleeding from gums
•    Fighting the bit
•    Bad mouth odor

We offer and recommend yearly dental care to help prevent such problems from occurring. Sedation is given to maintain the comfort of the horse throughout the procedure, and the horse’s head is placed into a brace called a speculum, allowing the veterinarian full access to the mouth. Your veterinarian will also examine your horse’s mouth for other concerns such as deciduous and wolf teeth, abscesses, periodontal disease, and more.
